ImproDans Trondheim thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration. Since 2019 I have invited 20 dancers, 7 visual artists and 43 musicians into the project. ImproDans Trondheim provides an open, non-judgmental space for cross-disciplinary improvisation indoors and outdoors in a site-specific setting.

ImproLabs are hosted together with local musicians and of great inspiration for dance improvisation. The invited musicians come from a wide range of genres and ages. We share a passion for improvisation and a curiosity for exploration.

Site-specific events in nature or art spaces offer a playground for exploration and artistic expression that results in multisensory experiences for the participants. By taking inspiration from the environment and addressing the different senses we create greater awareness for our surroundings and our body.

Examples:

Sand, Stones, Water, Shells serve as inspiration for the ImproJam at Ladestien. We connect with nature and respond to the surrounding with movement improvisations. We start with a walking meditation along Ladestien before going into the open jam.

The ImproJam at Rake visingsrom was part of a curated public program by Agnieszka Foltyn. It focussed on investigating the space through movement improvisation challenged by the spatial limitations of the gallery space.

The ImproJam at Tempe Atelier took inspiration from Estuary 2.0 an immersive sound and art installation by Afternoon Collective (Per Stian Monsås & Agnieszka Foltyn) and musician/composer Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø.

The ImproJam at Rosendal teater took inspiration from the black box and played with the elements of stage and its performance expectations by proposing a movement improvisation happening with a potential performative presence to an absent audience.

New: Water Contact ImproJam

In this ImproJam you are invited to a collective movement journey surrounded and supported by the world of water. You will be gently guided into a flow state where you tune into your own liquid body and discover your own water dance. The first hour offers an introduction to water contact dance where we explore movements together while in physical contact with others. After the guided workshop part, we dive into the open Jam - an open space where you can improvise freely and explore movements both alone or together with others in and underwater.

Since 2023 ImrpoDans Trondheim arranges an annual Contact Impro Festival in Trondheim - a weekend dedicated to contact improvisation full of workshops, jams, and performances! The festival is open to everyone curious about contact improvisation - from beginners to experienced CI practitioners. If you love moving, dancing, and improvising together with others this is the right place for you!

We aim to create another magical small-scale festival at DansiT to celebrate connection and community through contact improvisation. With the CI festival, ImproDans Trondheim wishes to offer a platform for knowledge exchange and a safe space to explore movements in contact with each other.
